We're in Connecticut at my Dad's house and just had a big family reunion. We've been going through our gear. Each person will be carrying 13 pounds of tools and bike parts, 7 pounds of camping gear, about five pounds of clothes, and a few pounds of maps, navigation devices, and electronics. That's not a lot of stuff. No stove or other frills. In the mountains we'll cook on wood fires. Down in the desert we'll look for camel dung. We'll see.
We're looking at maps, but we're still blissfully vague about where we'll find roads or trails, and therefore we don't actually know where we're going.
We do know that we get on the airplane in a few days to fly half-way around the world.

Hi Jon and Noey: Your blog is great. It stirs my own romantic spirit of adventure and my longing to connect with people in far away lands. Sharing your story with us gives me a sense of belonging to the people and the land and opens up a sense of awe and wonder about them. What you are doing seems to open a door of friendship, comraderie and understanding between the local people, yourselves and with us as you travel through their sacred land and ancient villages on one of the oldest and most universal modes of transporation - the bicycle. I will let our local bike shops and bike clubs know about your website so we can all come along for the ride! All the best, Julia Pyatt Taos, New Mexico

good luck

you guys look OK like you can doanything, including ride you bikes through bogs and over goat trails. I just read your itinerary, and it really did say goat trails as part of your tourist guided route. Pretty nice detail. Noey, I have a feeling that last big bike ride you did through the yucca might soon start to look like a piece of cake... Hope its full of interesting surprises and good people. Love from your mom
