Speaking

Thank you so much for your very fine presentation at our Convocation. I have always believed that the aim of life is not only to experience all you can, but to become the type of person who inspires others to experience all they can. If I am right, then you can take pride in being a five star success. Your presentation is one of the very best that I have heard at our school in the past twenty years.

My most recent talk, Romantics or Pragmatists -- Who Are We Anyway? examines our Stone Age propensities and the eternal human urge to explore. This talk is based on my new book, In The Wake of the Jomon
Between summer of 1998 (when Cold Oceans was released) and the present, I have given 118 slide show/readings, and done 46 radio, 20 print, and 13 television interviews.

The audiences have ranged a huge gambit, from large symposia of kayaking enthusiasts, to keynote presentations for physicians' get-togethers, and University audiences, such as the one at Southern Utah University, highlighted above.

FEAR
Management
Seminars

At the convocation at Southern Utah University, I talked about control of FEAR as a key to success and happiness. Why is it that "Zebras Don't Get Ulcers" and we do? After all, zebras live on a dangerous savannah, with lions in the bushes. Yet humans in modern North American society, who face much less risk, are often plagued with worry, fear, and ulcers. What does this tell us about the way humans think? How can we manage our lives to take the risks we need to take, yet manage the risks with the right amount of fear: not too much, but not too little. My talk on fear was so well received that I’ve outlined plans for more talks and seminars on FEAR management. Don’t be AFRAID to book me for this exciting and timely topic. Send me an email and let’s talk!
